ALive (African Livestock) est un Partenariat régional reposant sur une plateforme multi-acteurs pour repositionner le secteur de l’élevage africain en bonne place dans les agendas des décideurs politiques nationaux, régionaux et internationaux, en mettant en exergue  les importants enjeux qu’il véhicule en termes de lutte contre la pauvreté, de croissance économique durable et d’atteinte des Objectifs du Millénaire pour le Développement. Il résulte des demandes fortes de pays africains, tire les enseignements des récentes expériences des pays concernés et des bailleurs («évolution élevage») et s’inspire des perspectives raisonnées du secteur (« révolution élevage »). Initié par la Banque mondiale (2002), il a rapidement gagné son autonomie en recueillant l’appui et l'approbation des différents acteurs clé du secteur ; il constitue désormais une démarche volontaire, reconnue et partagée.

SA PPLPP is a unique livestock development program that aims ‘to ensure that the interests of poor livestock keepers are reflected in national as well as international policies and programs affecting their livelihoods’. It endeavours to do so by a) creating spaces for and facilitating dialogue among the actors playing a direct and indirect role in the livestock sector of South Asia, and b) drawing from and using lessons from field experiences to influence livestock-related policies, programmatic and institutional changes towards the benefit of poor fe/male livestock keepers in the region. Identification of Good Practices (GPs) goes hand in hand with developing an understanding of pro-poor livestock development, building capacity in documentation and the use of simple tools to sensitize actors, build coalitions and influence policy formulation and implementation.

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, India is an autonomous organisation under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. Formerly known as Imperial Council of Agricultural Research, it was established on 16 July, 1929 as a registered society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 in pursuance of the report of the Royal Commission on Agriculture. The ICAR has its headquarters at New Delhi.
