La FAO est également une source de savoir et d'informations. Elle aide les pays en développement et les pays en transition à moderniser et à améliorer les pratiques agricoles, forestières et halieutiques, et à garantir une bonne nutrition pour tous. Depuis sa création en 1945, elle a consacré une attention particulière au développement des zones rurales, où vivent 70 pour cent des populations pauvres et affamées de la planète.
